A 100 pg critique and a copy of PUB SPEAK from editor Tracy Marchini

Tracy Marchini is the bomb. And by that, I mean that she's wicked cool, not that she's got a fuse attached to her head. She's half of the online musical group Oh, the Humanities! (soon to be touring with my imaginary band, the Preliminary Merpires) and one heck of a freelance editor. She's offering up a 100 page manuscript critique PLUS a copy of her book PUB SPEAK, a dictionary that translates publishing terms into plain english for the rest of us. I wish I'd had one when I got MY first contract, because it feels like those things are written in Swahili.

Tracy specializes in developmental edits. You’ll receive an editorial letter with thoughts on the quality of your writing, narrative arc, character development, world building and overall marketability, along with a recommendation on your next steps. Which is quite plainly AWESOME.

Prize details:
The winner will receive a 100 page critique of a MG or YA manuscript, plus a copy of PUB SPEAK.

About Tracy Marchini:

Tracy Marchini is a freelance writer and editorial consultant. Before launching her own editorial service, she worked for Curtis Brown, Ltd. for four years. In this role, she developed and sold an original book concept for the Ogden Nash Estate (Line-Up For Yesterday), negotiated and sold audio rights, pitched merchandising ideas, gave editorial feedback on client and prospective manuscripts, and provided author care.

Before joining Curtis Brown, Tracy worked as a correspondent for the Taconic Press and as a children’s book reviewer for BookPage. She has also worked as a freelance copywriter for Scholastic, a non-fiction book proposal writer and a press release writer. She graduated from Binghamton University in 2004 with a BA in English, concentration in Rhetoric.

Tracy has served as a mentor for the 2008 and 2009 Rutgers One-on-One Plus Children’s Literature Conference, and has critiqued query letters and/or manuscripts for the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) Poughkeepsie Conference from 2007 to 2009. She will also present as an independent scholar at the 2011 Children’s Literature Association conference.

Tracy has been accepted for publication in Highlights Magazine and the forthcoming anthology Bad Austen: The Worst Stories Jane Never Wrote (Adams Media, Nov. 2011). She is the recipient of a partial grant for an October, 2010 Highlights Founder’s Workshop, a barter at the La Muse writer’s retreat in Southern France for July/August 2010, and a 2006 Puffin Grant to write a non-fiction picture book on Queen Lili’uokalani.

The item will close for bids on July 25th at 4 PM EST.
